Spring and Summer Camps

About Our Camps

Alasdair Gordon, a KidStart friend forever, believed adventure is key to encouraging independence and self-determination in kids – two essential building blocks for a positive, productive life.

On discovering KidStart, Alasdair immediately recognized a match between KidStart’s philosophy and his own and quickly became an avid supporter. Throughout his life, Alasdair gave generously to KidStart and helped us find those much-needed volunteer mentors.

In keeping with his belief about the importance of adventure, he also established a fund to help KidStart kids attend Summer Camp. Every year more than 70 children who otherwise would not attend camp get to do so. Through Alasdair’s gift to us, they can develop that sense of adventure and independence that both he and KidStart hold so dear.

We are immensely grateful to Alasdair for everything he did for KidStart. His actions, ideas and values live on every day through our KidStart kids, mentors, and staff.

Popular Camps

Below are some popular camp options.  These are only a few suggestions. We support many others as well.

Camp Funding Requirements

The Summer Camp Fund is made possible through the generosity of our donors. To help us honour their support, all camp recipients are required to complete a thank you card, short note, or quote reflecting on their camp experience.

These messages are shared with donors each November and mean a great deal to them. They also help show the real impact of the program and allow us to continue offering this opportunity to children and youth.

Please note that Summer Camp Fund support is available only to children and youth currently enrolled in the KidStart program. We are unable to accept outside referrals.

If you have any questions about the fund or the thank you process, please don’t hesitate to reach out. Thank you for helping us care for this opportunity with gratitude and intention.

Thank You Ideas

Below are a few ways you, your mentee and your mentee’s family can say thank you, but you’re always welcome to get creative – original ideas are encouraged!

  • Handwritten notes from your mentee and/or their parent/guardian
  • Write or draw a story about camp

If you’re not able to print the card yourself, please ask your coordinator to print one for you.

Please create and send your thank you to your coordinator as soon as you can after your mentee has been to camp while the memories are still fresh in your mentee’s mind.
