The John Howard Society of Victoria (JHS Victoria) has provided services to the Greater Victoria area since 1935. JHS Victoria began as a group in the community with the vision of creating a safe, healthy, and inclusive community for all, which is still its vision to this day. Its mission is to create safer, stronger, and more sustainable communities by supporting people to achieve greater independence. It supports youth, adults, and families through a wide range of social services including supportive housing, community reintegration, and programs for employment, outreach, restorative justice, and mentorships. JHS Victoria operates KidStart across communities in Greater Victoria.
PLEA Community Services Society of BC has been providing programs and services to children, youth, adults and families facing significant challenges since1979. Its origins are in youth justice where it was one of the first agencies to offer young people a community-based program as an alternative to custody. Its programs and services now span child welfare, addictions, health, justice and community living systems. It’s focus ranges from preventative – helping children and youth at-risk make good choices under challenging circumstances through programs like KidStart – to intensive – providing specialized residential services to youth, and adults who are unable to live on their own. PLEA’s vision is a world where everyone has the opportunity for a good life, and where everyone counts. PLEA operates KidStart in the Lower Mainland.
