Mentoring Program for Children
and Youth in Coquitlam

At KidStart, we believe in the power of connection to change lives. Across Coquitlam and Metro Vancouver, we match young people – many of whom are facing tough personal challenges with caring adult mentors who can help light the way forward. With encouragement, consistency, and a non-judgmental ear, mentors can spark hope, build resilience, and empower these children and youth to see their own potential. If you’re ready to make a lasting impact, we’d love to welcome you into our community of child and youth mentors.

Ready to become a mentor?

What We Do

We work hard to find and prepare amazing adult volunteers who are ready to mentor young people one-on-one. Our mentors don’t just show up—they stick around, offering support, encouragement, and a healthy dose of fun through regular hangouts and confidence-boosting activities. It’s just three hours a week, but the impact lasts way longer for our young people. In Coquitlam, we serve children as young as six years old all the way until they are 18.

Coquitlam Mentorship Needs

Currently,  9 young people in the Coquitlam area are sharing valuable time with a volunteer mentor with 11 still on the wait list. On average, these kids will wait over a year to be matched with their mentor and we think that’s far too long!

If you are a Coquitlam resident or live nearby and are looking for a meaningful volunteer opportunity, apply today to make a positive difference in the life of these young people!

Training Provided for Mentors

Once you are approved to be a mentor, you will receive comprehensive training to help you in your role, including first aid, trauma-informed practice, how to write effective case notes and more. This training makes KidStart a great program for post-secondary students planning a career in social services; you give back to your community and get practical experience at the same time.
