Mentoring Program for Youth
and Children in Delta

KidStart supports young people navigating challenging life situations through one-on-one youth mentoring in Delta and across the rest of Metro Vancouver. Many of our program participants face family instability, interactions with the justice system, live under youth agreements, or are transitioning out of government care. Mentorship from dedicated volunteers can have a positive impact – and we’re always looking for caring individuals to provide this critical support.

Ready to become a mentor?

What We Do

KidStart takes a structured approach to youth mentorship by recruiting, screening, and training dedicated adult volunteers. These mentors commit to building stable, one-on-one relationships with young people in the program, offering consistent guidance and modeling positive behavior. Through regular, engaging activities, mentors help youth strengthen their confidence and develop essential life skills. To ensure meaningful impact, volunteers are asked to commit approximately three hours each week for a minimum of one year.

Meet a Volunteer Mentor

“I find that the more time I spend with my mentee, the more she opens up and lets herself be a kid. In today’s day and age of having to grow up as soon as you can, it can be a breath of fresh air when kids can be kids.”

Loren has been a mentor with KidStart since January 2025. She is a university student who balances a part-time job with volunteering and spending time with family and friends. She wishes she had a strong role model when she was a kid to help her through some challenges she faced, including having parents who struggled with substance use. Her history and her fondness for spending time with kids led her to become a mentor.
