KidStart’s Response to COVID-19

March 26th, 2020

This update replaces the previous statement made March 23rd 2020.

After careful consideration, KidStart has decided to update our policy on mentors and mentees physically meeting during the COVID-19 pandemic. Due to the changing nature of the situation, we are requesting that mentors and mentees do not meet face to face. We realize that this is an extreme step but in abundance of caution, we want to make sure that mentors, mentees and their families are safe and protected during this time.

Until otherwise told, KidStart mentors will not be meeting face to face with their mentees, however KidStart is still determined to provide service to the families and children who have come to rely on it as a beneficial and important part of their lives. And as we have said previously, our communities’ matter.

Mentors spending time with their mentee is extremely important, therefore we have provided the mentors with recommendations on how they can spend time together virtually. In this way, we continue to follow the advice of Dr. Bonnie Henry, the Provincial Heath Officer, in finding ways to adapt the KidStart program in ways to provide services while minimizing transmission of the virus.

We can assure you that our staff are going above and beyond with precautions in order to protect the health and wellbeing of our mentors, mentees, and families who use our services. We are communicating regularly with mentors and updating them on new procedures or news related to COVID-19 as necessary.

Thanks for reading this message and stay safe!
