We were expecting a typical rainy night on May 23rd – but our good cause had good fortune! An hour before the event began, the clouds parted to make way for a beautiful, sunny, early summer evening. The conditions were nothing short of perfect as the 3-piece jazz ensemble played atop the Rennie Collection’s Wing Sang Building overlooking Chinatown. As the sun set guests enjoyed champagne, hors d’oeuvres and a private advance viewing of an exhibition by Vancouver’s own Rodney Graham. The gallery preview was followed by a delicious and very memorable dining experience on the roof.
After the sun had set and the fourth course was but a happy memory, the evening shifted from fine art and cuisine to the purpose for which it was so generously being hosted – KidStart. The evening’s MC, CTV’s Tamara Taggart invited PLEA board member Joy MacPhail to speak about the important work being undertaken by KidStart.
As Joy spoke, it was incredible to watch the guests being moved and engaged by her description. Her words inspired the guests to take action – for they realized they too could, in the words of our slogan, “Help Give a Kid a Start”, by supporting KidStart.
With the help of the Rennie Collection, over $88,000 was raised including a generous $25,000 from the Face the World Foundation.
As KidStart is supported entirely by our fundraising efforts, everybody’s generosity was very gratifying and means we are, indeed, able to give more kids a start.
Thank you to The Rennie Gallery and the evening’s other sponsors: A&B Partytime Rentals, Beta 5, the Four Seasons Hotel, Hanamo Florist, Hawksworth Restaurant, Holt Renfrew, Linacare, Native Shoes, MET Fine Printers, OUT TV, Pacific Coast Tents, Poplar Grove, Rosewood Hotel Georgia, Total, The Vancouver Sun and Whistler Water.
