Joy MacPhail is back on the campaign trail PLEA Board Director Joy MacPhail was joined by representatives from the Vancouver Police Department and the staff and volunteers from PLEA to cook and serve a free pancake breakfast for the 560 returning students of Lord Selkirk Elementary.
PLEA Community Service's KidStart Mentoring Program is one of four finalists for Vancity's $1million Award and in true neighborhood spirit, decided to kick off the campaign for votes by hosting a free breakfast on the first day back to school. Lord Selkirk is across the street from PLEA??s Vancouver head quarters.
The goal was to raise awareness of vulnerable kids who might slip through the cracks and how PLEA's KidStart program and the Vancity $1million Award can help them.
KidStart provides trained adult volunteer mentors to elementary school age children who are experiencing difficulties that make them vulnerable to exploitation, crime and drug addiction.
Joy MacPhail said "What a great way to get back in the school spirit and support a program that could help so many kids in Greater Vancouver and Vancouver Island."
